The FRHB Presents Major Gift to The Royal Hawaiian Band

The Friends of the Royal Hawaiian Band are proud to announce the gift of two musical arrangements to the Royal Hawaiian Band in the city and County of Honolulu. The FRHB commissioned Matt Catingub of the Honolulu Pops Orchestra to arrange two new pieces of music, “Nani Waimea” and “Hawaiian Hits Medley 2009”, specifically for performance by the Band.  “Nani Waimea” is a trumpet section feature, while “Hawaiian Hits Medley 2009” features some of the most popular contemporary Hawaiian music songs, including “Napua”, “Kawaipunahele”, “Flying with Angels”, “Island Style”, “Home in the Islands”, and “Haleiwa Hula.”

Mufi Hanneman, mayor of Honolulu, and Royal Hawaiian Band Bandmaster Mike Nakasone were on hand at Honolulu Hale on June 26th, 2009 for the presentation of the gift of music. The commission was funded by generous donations from the members of the Friends of the Royal Hawaiian Band.
