Founded in 1836 by order of King Kamehameha III, the Royal Hawaiian Band is one of the last living links to Hawai`i's monarchy. Steeped in tradition, the Band has survived a variety of political changes throughout the years. It has remained a vital part of Hawai`i's daily life as the islands evolved from a monarchy to a territory and finally to the 50th State of the United States. Today, the Royal Hawaiian Band is an agency of the City and County of Honolulu and is the only full-time municipal band in the United States.

The Friends of the Royal Hawaiian Band is the Band's non-profit support arm. Its mission is to help preserve and promote this historic organization. You are invited to join the Friends and become a part of this effort.
