2008 Hawaiian Music Award

On Saturday, September 14, The Friends of the Royal Hawaiian Band proudly sponsored the First (re-activated) Annual Aloha Festivals Floral Parade Hawaiian March Competition. This competition awarded cash and plaques to the top three Hawaiʻi school bands that showcased Hawaiian marching music on the parade route. The goal of this competition was to raise awareness of the performance of Hawaiian music by our school bands, military bands, and the Royal Hawaiian Band at our colorful Waikīkī parades.

There was enthusiastic participation by our local ʻOahu high school and middle school bands, although some bands were unable to participate because they did not have Hawaiian Music to play!  The Friends hope to help correct this situation in the future.

Cash awards in the amount of $500 (first place), $350 (second place), and $250 (third place) were awarded to the school marching bands listed below.
